I’m Alex, a photographer based in Brighton, UK, where I live with my wife, Martha, and our two-year-old son.
My career has taken me all around the world, working on assignment for publications including The New York Times, The Guardian, Monocle and more. In recent years, I have begun bringing that same documentary approach to weddings, and it’s become one of my favourite parts of my work.
Since I was a teenager, I’ve used photography to explore my curiosity about the world – to document my life and other people’s – and it’s taken me into places and situations I would never have found myself in without the camera. Weddings give me that same privilege, with the bonus of being there to make photographs that will be cherished for decades.
I shoot with a range of tools; digital as well as 35mm, medium format and instant film. But my approach is quite simple: your wedding comes first, the photographs come second. I always make time for key portraits and group shots, but most of the day I'm there to capture what's actually happening, not to stage it.
